Feeding little ones rarely goes exactly to plan.
One day they’re happily eating everything you offer, and the next they’re turning their nose up at foods they loved yesterday. There are spills, half-eaten meals, snack requests five minutes after dinner and plenty of days when you wonder whether they’ve eaten enough at all.
As a Dietitian, Nutritionist and Mum to nearly two-year-old Lenny, Millie Padula knows this reality firsthand.
Becoming a Mum completely shaped Millie’s approach to nutrition. It taught her that real-life parenting requires realistic, evidence-based advice — and that sometimes the best thing you can do at mealtimes is simply take the pressure off.
Subo has been part of Lenny’s food journey since he first started solids and has now become a permanent part of their daily routine.
For Millie, it ticks two important boxes: Mum-approved and Dietitian-approved.
The Reality of Feeding Toddlers
We all have an idea of what family mealtimes will look like before we become parents.
Balanced meals. Plenty of variety. Everyone sitting happily at the table.
Then reality hits.
Expectations vs Reality
Meal plans can quickly go out the window when your toddler decides they don't want the food you lovingly prepared — or decides that today's favourite food is the only food they will eat.
The Pressure
It’s completely normal for parents to worry about whether their child is eating enough, getting enough variety or missing out on important nutrients.
But mealtimes don't need to become a battle.
The Chaos
And then there’s the mess.
Splattered purées, food-covered hands, spills in the car and squeezy pouches that seem to find their way onto everything can add a whole extra layer of physical and mental load to feeding little ones.
For Millie, finding simple tools that make feeding easier is part of creating more relaxed, enjoyable mealtimes.
Why Millie Trusts Subo
It Encourages Independence
As toddlers develop, they're learning to do more for themselves — including feeding themselves.
Subo’s unique design allows little ones to feed themselves independently, helping them practise those important self-feeding skills while giving parents one less thing to do.
For Lenny, Subo has been part of that journey from his very first solids through to toddlerhood.
It Helps Reduce Mealtime Mess
Subo’s non-squeeze design helps prevent the food explosions that can come with traditional pouches.
That means less squeezing, less splashing and hopefully a little less cleaning up afterwards.
It Makes Nutritious Food Easy to Take Anywhere
One of the biggest benefits for busy families is flexibility.
Subo makes it simple to serve a wide range of foods — including homemade smoothies, yoghurt, purées and other nutritious meals — when you're at home or on the go.
For Millie, that means nutritious food doesn't have to stop being an option just because the family has left the house.
A Dietitian’s Tip for Stress-Free Meals
Millie’s biggest piece of advice?
Take the pressure off yourself and your child.
Rather than focusing on whether your child finishes everything on their plate, focus on regularly offering a variety of nutritious foods and creating positive experiences around eating.
Children's appetites can vary from day to day. Some days they may eat plenty, while other days they may barely touch a meal.
Tools that encourage independence can also help make mealtimes feel more relaxed. When children are given opportunities to participate in their own feeding, they're learning important skills and building confidence around food.
As Millie puts it, nutrition advice needs to work in real family life — not just on paper.
And sometimes, making mealtimes easier is as simple as having the right tools on hand.
